Free Junk

Do you remember the Daffodils I brought home from Virginia? Well, this is all that is left of them. This weekend, I was cleaning out the big tub that they had been in, when I found clay. All that I could salvage was this little bit. Layla thought it was pretty neat, Blake didn't seem to care much. I decided to make a little pinch pot to see if it would dry out, and it did! Pretty pathetic looking though, huh?

I always read about all the wonderful things everyone else finds sitting out with the garbage. And as much as I look as I am driving by, I never see anything but garbage! But Saturday, I finally found something! I noticed this little table sitting by the side of the road and liked the shape. So I went to get a closer look.

Poor thing hasn't had much love, as you can see. It looks like it's been kept outside, but I love the shape of the legs! It looks like it used to be an end table, the top broke off when I put it in the trunk. And the very bottom of one foot broke too. So obviously it isnt going to be used to a table! I already have an idea in mind for that smaller piece leaning up against it. No ideas for the table yet though.

Any suggestions?

Keepers of the Coop?

Or just plain nasty?

Just plain nasty for me. Yet, they live on top of our chicken coop. With even more smaller ones inside this metal cage. If you look closely in the picture above, you can see the one on the right actually has only 7 legs.

All I can think when I walk in the coop, is how many eight-legged creatures there are above my head!

Furry & Feathery Friends

Meet our new kitty. She doesn't really have a name yet, we tossed around Bacon (we have a Pancake and had a Waffle, RIP). Layla calls her "Princess Kitty" and Blake calls her "Small Fry". I found her outside last week when I get out to get the newspaper. Isnt she cute?

Sunday, we went over to a friend's house. He has several donkeys, including one just born this past Saturday.

Mama is still pretty protective, but the carrots were tempting enough.

Can you see the stripes on the little ones' legs?

The kids had a blast feeding them. This little girl is pretty young herself and coudln't handle the big pieces.

That's Jack there in the center. He likes to be the center of attention.

I kept trying to get a picture of the new baby, but he kept head butting me to try and get the carrots.

And now for the feathers. Remember my previous post (http://wendyinflorida.blogspot.com/2008/07/winner-winner.html)? (I will figure this out one day, I promise!). Well we ended up getting two more of those eggs, exactly the same size. I cracked them this weekend. Can you guess how many yolks were in each?

Yup, only 2 each. We have only had that one triple yolker so far.

One of the Rhode Island Reds, Nanna, has been sitting in one of the nests. Unfortunatly, she isn't quite the right size for these buckets. It's a little tight.

And the biggest news from the coop? More babies! We have 6 from this batch.

For some reason, our chickens seem to like sharing buckets. We found Chicken Dinner crammed in on top of poor mama. Chicken Nugget & her friend are still sitting together, and we have two black hens that sometimes sit together.

Here are five of the newbies. The one not shown is very light yellow right now.

Here's the little yellow one, along with some of Chicken Dinner's little ones.

Newbies...

And one of our little Auraucana's.

I hope you enjoyed seeing all of these cuties! Have a great week!

Chickies & Last Weeks Finds

Since the babies are all out of the nest and running around, I thought I would share a newer picture. I think I can see the little tufts on the Auraucana's.

I know I haven't really been sharing much vintage goodies lately. I haven't really been yardsaling in a while! But I did stop at the thrift last week and one yardsale. I found this mug at one of the thrift stores. The glass has the same look at Hazel Atlas, Fire King, Pyrex, etc. but there are no markings on the bottom except for a very tiny 28. Nothing else. I have tried searching online but cannot find another one of these. Does anyone know anything about this?

Then I also found this one lonely cup. I just love the little flower! It's Taylor, Smith & Taylor, and the pattern is called Boutonniere.

Look at how pretty the inside is!

I also found this little Mikasa cup. The bottom says "Color Trend" and then "DR 201 Petal Puff Japan". I didn't have much luck finding this online either.

Then at the yardsale I found this enamel bowl.

At the Catholic thrift, I found this little basket. I'm not sure if I love the green. Do you think I could paint it?

Also at the same thrift, I found several vintage hankies.

This little purple flower is too cute!

And while none of our initials include a G, I thought these were pretty. I really like the grey.

And both of them are different.

The blue one is plain, but I really liked the color. Same for the one with the purple edge. But look at the one that says Ann!

What about you, have you found anything good lately?

Oh, and I haven't forgotten about my previous post asking for ideas. I will get to that!

The pitter patter of little feet....

We have babies! Chicken Dinners' eggs finally hatched! I am not sure how many there are since she is still sitting on them, but there are 5 in this picture. Notice the little yellow one towards the top (under her wing) and the little blob of yellow between the two below?

Of course, we have more mama's sitting and this is just too funny not to share.

Have a great weekend!!

Ideas Needed!

OK, I need some ideas from you creative minds out there! I have these big (these things are BIG) Apothecary jars that I got for Christmas. Yes, I display them like all together because I really have nowhere else to put them. I've had pinecones in there, and easter eggs and then these sparkly garlands. But I was looking for something else since Memorial Day & Fourth of July are over.

I looked around the house and thought of these. These are neck tags. We found them hanging from a palm tree in the backyard by the "barn" when we moved in. The previous owners had goats. I washed them up but had to pitch a few that were in really bad shape. I think it would look better if I had a little bit more, but I can't find any online that aren't brand new. Any suggestions?

And then I remembered I had a bunch of vintage wooden clothespins that I was using to hold ribbon. That storage system wasn't working for me, so I took all the ribbon off and used them here.

What I need though, is your ideas on what to use in the middle jar, the biggest one. I can't think of anything else I have around the house that I could put in there. So come on ladies, help me out! :)

4th of July

(Warning, lot's of photos!) I hope you and your family had a great holiday! We sure did. We went to Mike's sisters' house for the day.

The kids wanted to bring the sponge balls. Sponge fight!!

Of course, all the little ones targeted their older cousin.

But even more fun than a dirty sponge fight....

A huge, inflatable waterslide! This thing was a big hit with kids and adults alike!

Layla cheesin'.

After all that excitement (my kids got dropped off over there around 9 am and they went non-stop all day), it was time for fireworks.

Gotta have sparklers...

Since we did our own fireworks, I don't really have any great shots. We did buy some of the big ones that go way up and explode, like the professional displays, but they were REALLY hard to get pictures of! So here are the only two that I managed to get more than a spark:

As you can imagine, the kids crashed pretty hard that night!
