Heirloom Party

Today I am participating in Marie's Heirloom Party. I dont really have any family heirlooms. None that were actually passed down to me, knowing they were an heirloom. But when my mom passed away, I took a few things that I know were in the family, but unfortunatly, I know nothing about them. I dont know how old they are, or where they came from, or who might have used them. But they are special to me, and I hope to pass them on to my kids, making them heirlooms for sure.

This is a 2 quart churn. The raised letters on the front say Dazey Churn & Mfg. Co. at the top of the circle, and below they say No. 20 Made in St. Louis - USA.

I do remember seeing this in my grandmothers house, but never bothered trying to find out more, or really asking anything about her past. I was 16 when she passed away, and I regret not learning more about her. She would be 95 this year.

Oh to have her here now. The stories I could learn about and the treasure she had. I didnt realize it then, but looking back now, she had some amazing things. I miss her. I wish she could have known my children.

This little Singer sewing machine also comes from her side of the family. From looking it up a little online, I think I remember seeing this one came out in 1914. That's the year she was born. She had siblings, but I cant remember if she had an older sister or not. Maybe their mother got it for them? Maybe it was an older sisters? I will never know. My mother passed away when I was 21, and I still hadnt come around to asking about the past at that point. Yet another thing I regret. There really isnt anyone else in the family to learn much from. I do have an aunt that came to live with my mother when she was in her teens. Her mother died, leaving 13 or so children to be split up among family members.

I've wondered what these might be worth, but could never part with them!

It still has the needle in it.

I thought I would share some more photos, including my new finds from this weekend. There are quite a few!

These Ball mason jars were $.50 and $.12 (charity thrift), the white hobnail bowl is Fire King ($2, same thrift), the blue bowl is Fenton, it was $.50 at a yardsale, along with the 3 floral frogs (3 for $1) and the pins ($.15). I was just saying the other day that I never see frogs anywhere!

This Tupperware cake plate came from the same thrift as above, it was $.25.

A church down the road was having a yardsale. Got a few good things, and they had great prices! I got this for the frame, it was $.75.

This came from the church also, it was $.75. It's marked 1980. Is it Little People?

Some old linens. The pillow cases on top were $.50 or less, the one on the bottom left was $.10 (it has some yellowing, but for $.10 I figured it was worth a shot) and the little owl towel was $.75.



A sheet and finally an apron! The sheet was $.50 and the apron $.75. It's my first time finding an apron at something other than an antique shop.



Found this at the same yardsale as the frogs. It was $2. It was a medicine cabinent, but we took the back off and hung it in the hallway. It looks better in real life, but this picture is bad. It has detailing in the corners and the paint is chippy.

Here is some of the other things I have found. Everything on this shelf I have gotten at yardsales, thrifts or antique shops, except for the beater in the middle. That came from my family, but I am not sure how old it is or anything like that.

I picked this up the Webster Flea Market. Finally a place to keep my John Deere salt & pepper shakers!

This was my Valentine's day gift from DF, along with that little scoop in shelf picture. This was a big surprise! I never expected him to buy me stuff like this! Thanks sweetie! Love you!

Picked this up at a yardsale awhile back. It was gold, I think it looks a lot better now!

Also got this at the Webster Flea Market.

On a different note, we now have chickens! The only one with a name so far is the momma chicken, her name is Chicken Dinner, courtesy of Blake & Layla.

Not the greatest picture, but for anyone in Florida with a citrus tree in their yard, they are getting to enjoy the sweet smell of orange blossom. This is our orange tree, but the grapefruit and tangerine trees are also blooming.

"Weeds", from my sweet daughter. Riding in the golf cart, she made daddy stop so she could pick some flowers.

And finally, I picked up this lamp from Target when the Global Bazaar stuff went on clearance. It was $70, but I got it for $17. The black shade doesnt match anything in my house though, so I recovered the lamp shade.

Red.... & white

Katrina posted a photography challenge this week on Scraptown. The color red. Now keep in mind, I don't have a fancy SLR camera. I WISH I had one, lol. But I just have a point & shoot. This picture is hanging up at work. Blake drew it, and it says "I love you".

And now for the white. Mike brought me these vintage porcelain knobs home from work yesterday! He sent me a picture early in the day of them, but then said he was just showing me them & had thrown them away! But he was kidding. They aren't in perfect shape, that one is broken. But I don't care. I just need to decide what to do with them. He has the other piece that they were mounted to the shower with, but I'm not sure if I want to use that too, or just the knobs. Any ideas?

Thift Store & Yard Sale Finds

Thursday, my friend & I decided to go to this little thrift store down the road from work, during our lunch break. We had been once before, and had wanted to go back. Well, we were pleased to find that everything in the store was 50% off! Unfortunately, it's because they are losing their building (they're a charity thrift) and are trying to clear everything out. The 50% off is going to continue until the end of the month.

I picked up this Ball jar for $.25, the old sifter for $1, and the books for $.50 each. I got Little Women & one called The Water Babies, both from the 50's. The Water Babies is full of fairy tales. And then The Secret Garden is from the 80's, but I like that book. Not pictured it two clear glass teacups I got for $.25 for BOTH. They are at work holding paper clips & tacks.

This morning, my friend, mother-in-law, my son & I headed out to see what we could find. The original goal was to hit an estate sale & then head to our favorite antique store for the yard sale they were having. At the estate sale I got this spice rack. I took the jars out, cleaned them out and will probably use them to hold scrapbooking stuff. I'm not sure yet where the house is going to go, but I thought it was cute.

The estate sale was held in at least a 100 year old house. I have a soft spot for old houses. My dream house would be an old, two story house. This one was pretty small, but I still liked it. It still had the old glass doorknobs & skeleton key locks. They weren't exactly sure how old it was, but the one a few houses down was built in 1907, and this one was already there.

From there, we went to the antique store's sale. It wasn't as great as we thought it would be. One vendor had some tables set up outside and had her stuff 50% off. I picked up a yellow Pyrex bowl. I could have got another in the same size, in green for $10 for the pair, but I only got this one. It was normally $12.50, but I got it for $6. My first colored Pyrex!

We went to some more yard sales after that, but it was pretty much a bust. All we really found was clothes, toys & various other junk.

After my mother in law left, my friend & I ran down to the Missing Children's thrift we had been wanting to go to. More Pyrex! And I really liked this pumpkin dish. I doubt it's old, but its cute.

I think we definitely did better last week, but I am happy with what I found!
