More Saturday Finds

I was so excited to find that I was featured on Someday Crafts for my cabinet to chair project. It's my first time being featured anywhere, THANK YOU!

I had to run to the bank yesterday, and saw that there was a big yard sale going on next to the Scrounge Around shop. I always seem to find something there, so we stopped by.

I found this great old doorknob for $1! She said it's complete, and as far as I can see (but what do I know?) it is. No skeleton key though :(.

Some buttons to cover and old ruler (I'm seeing projects involving these all over these days).Notice the sizes that they have? Men, Junior, Missey & MAMA SIZES?

This hobnail-looking frame.

The milk glass vase is for the girls' room. And the hobnail piece is Fire King. I have another just like this, but smaller.

This shirt will be either a pillow or something for Layla. Probably a pillow though. Ever since I started seeing all these menswear remakes, I cannot find any decent shirts!

One of my favorite finds, this lamp! I wanted a lamp for my bedside table, and had been admiring all the glass ones I saw on other blogs. Now I found one! I obviously need to take it apart and paint it. I need a new shade, too. If you have redone one of these, or know who has, could you PLEASE share the links? I'm not sure what kind of shade to go with. Suggestions?

Another Saturday Finds

A quick trip to the bank & stop at the thrift to donate a few things resulted in my favorite find of the day! A new coffee table! I was tired of the one we had, not to mention, I think it was too big for the space we have now. So I had been watching Craigslist but hadnt really found anything. And then I saw this. Marked $30. And it was mine! They gave it to me for $25, didnt have to barter, they just rang it up at that price. I love this thrift!

I also found another candlestick. I'm hoping to pry that brass part off so I just have the wood.

I also found this great glass canister. You can never have too many of these.

And this little box that will obviously need repainting.

Here is our old table. Not bad, just needed a change. We've had this for about 8 years. Nice solid wood, and has withstood two toddlers that have now grown into school agers who constantly use it as a chair. And my numerous craft projects.

Real life here, taken before I finished cleaning. You can see how big it is compared to our love seats. When Mike got a deal on two brand new loveseats ($100 a piece, made by the company that makes La-Z-Boy) we knew it was time to replace the old couch & loveseat. Since this room is smaller than what we had when we purchased them, two loveseats seem to fit better than the old couch/loveseat combo. Just need some slipcovers ;).

Saturday Finds

We had a few errands to run this morning... Post offfice, Publix, 7-11 for our free Slurpees... and at the last minute, I decided to stop at the thrift. I have really been jonesin' to go yardsaling, but that really doesnt sound reasonable in the near 100° Florida days, alone with three kids. No thanks! But I did find a couple things.

This pretty pillowcase.

I hardly ever find books I want to read, but I had wanted to read this, so when I saw it for a quarter, I thought, why not?

I have trouble passing up decent frames, since they can be used for so many things, so I picked these two up (will be painted before use!).

And this one (will NOT be painted!).



Pyrex! It seems like it's been awhile since I found any, so here ya go. I know not everyone likes this pattern, but it's what my mother had and it reminds me of her.



I actually picked up this awhile back, but had forgotten about it. It was only a dollar and the original price tag on the bottom says $19.99! It needs some paint, but not sure what color. The good old standby, white? Or something more fun? The pretty blue from out metal table? I'm not even sure where I'm going to put this yet, I only have one. Our living room is pretty much beige and sage green. I would like to give it a change, too. But it will have to wait. It would involve slipcovers & all that, and we just dont have the funds for a major redo yet. But I am keeping an eye out for coffee tables, etc. We have had the same furniture for the entire 9 years we have been together, I'm growing kind of tired of them! So anyway, what do you think about the colors?

And probably the best find of the week, courtesy of Mike. A dishwasher!! I imagine our kitchen is pretty much the way it was when the house was built in 1962, with the exception of a different layer of linoleum flooring and a different cooktop. But it's definetly outdated, and there is no dishwasher. We knew that, but wanted the place anyway. But two years of handwashing ALL the dishes, and I'm tired of it! He found this on Craigslist for $100. I cant wait till it's installed, even though I'm losing precious cabinet space. It doesnt match our other appliances, but heck they dont match each other. We have a white fridge from the early 2000's, a black glass cooktop & a beige oven from the 1960's. So maybe someday down the road, when we get to redo the kitchen, we'll get matching appliances. But for now, they work! Besides, with our UGLY cabinets, even fancy, top of the line stainless couldnt help!

Saturday Finds

My favorite thrift store (the Catholic thrift) sent a card in the mail the beginning of this week, advertising a yardsale this weekend. I havent been yardsaling in awhile, so I decided we would stop by. Unfortunatly, I didnt find much. They had some stuff outside, that's where I found the frame above (ignore the ugliness inside!). There were a couple tables set up outside and the kids found some books. We went inside, but it's a very small building and there were just too many people inside to try and keep track of 2 kids and carry a carseat. The only other thing I got there was the blue & brown cloth things you see above.

So we stopped at another church sale we saw. Nothing exciting there at all. And came upon a yardsale and decided to stop. I found this yellow potato masher. I have two red ones, but this is the first yellow one I've found.

My favorite thing I think, are these birds! I just pray the cats & kids dont break them.

I picked up this metal tool tray for Mike.

And this neat metal stool.





Now for the cloth things. They had them with the placemats, but they dont really look like placemats to me. There are four of them. I liked the fabric, thats why I grabbed them for $.25. Any ideas what they are?

And just cause she's cute, a photo of Morgan from today! She's a little over 3 months old already. Can you believe it?!

Off topic, my house is clean, my coupons & grocery list are ready for tomorrow, and maybe I can convince Mike to take a look at my sewing machine. If not, I guess I'll just have a relaxing Saturday night. Have a great Sunday!

Catching Up

I used to scrapbook quite a bit. I was almost always caught up and there were times I didn't have any pictures to scrap! But I haven't done it as much, or at all lately. Blake has 2 complete albums, and Layla has maybe 10 pages! But I finally broke down and did a page yesterday. It felt good. So I'm gonna try and do it more often. I haven't hooked up the scanner or installed the stitching software on this computer yet, but here is a photo:

Maybe I can get another one started tomorrow? We'll see.

On another note, we went to the thrift shop on lunch today. I was looking for frames for three prints I picked up on clearance at Tractor Supply. I did find them, $.25 a piece. Can't beat that. But look what else I found!

Notice the Zodiac signs on the bottom? I sat it on top of the little desk I picked up at the same thrift. Actually, everything but the book on the bottom came from that thrift. The red book on top is a math book from 1912.

Let's just hope I can keep the kids from destroying it!

What the heck is it? & Saturday Finds

First off, it's another what-the-heck-is-it post. What the heck are these, does anyone have any ideas? They were all over our yard yesterday morning and they are all over the neighbor's yards, too. They are pretty whatever they are.

This picture is kind of washed out, but I wanted to show how many there were in this bunch.

Another bad photo... this is the neighbor's house, right across the road.

And for yesterday's finds. I got all this for less than $1 at the catholic thrift. I never expect to find an apron, cause, well, I never do. But I looked through the linens and went to walk away. I saw a little cart with some potholder, etc in it, and spotted this:

It's got a few small spots I need to try and get out, but I thought it was cute! Here is a close up of the detail. It's across the waistband and at the end of the strings as well.

I also found this cute grease strainer. It says "Kromex" on top.

And I picked up three books. The one on the left is called "Six Good Friends a Story of Circus Horses". The copyright says 1947. The Young Helen Keller book I had as a child. Not pictured is Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born.

I thought I would share some more photos, including my new finds from this weekend. There are quite a few!

These Ball mason jars were $.50 and $.12 (charity thrift), the white hobnail bowl is Fire King ($2, same thrift), the blue bowl is Fenton, it was $.50 at a yardsale, along with the 3 floral frogs (3 for $1) and the pins ($.15). I was just saying the other day that I never see frogs anywhere!

This Tupperware cake plate came from the same thrift as above, it was $.25.

A church down the road was having a yardsale. Got a few good things, and they had great prices! I got this for the frame, it was $.75.

This came from the church also, it was $.75. It's marked 1980. Is it Little People?

Some old linens. The pillow cases on top were $.50 or less, the one on the bottom left was $.10 (it has some yellowing, but for $.10 I figured it was worth a shot) and the little owl towel was $.75.



A sheet and finally an apron! The sheet was $.50 and the apron $.75. It's my first time finding an apron at something other than an antique shop.



Found this at the same yardsale as the frogs. It was $2. It was a medicine cabinent, but we took the back off and hung it in the hallway. It looks better in real life, but this picture is bad. It has detailing in the corners and the paint is chippy.

Here is some of the other things I have found. Everything on this shelf I have gotten at yardsales, thrifts or antique shops, except for the beater in the middle. That came from my family, but I am not sure how old it is or anything like that.

I picked this up the Webster Flea Market. Finally a place to keep my John Deere salt & pepper shakers!

This was my Valentine's day gift from DF, along with that little scoop in shelf picture. This was a big surprise! I never expected him to buy me stuff like this! Thanks sweetie! Love you!

Picked this up at a yardsale awhile back. It was gold, I think it looks a lot better now!

Also got this at the Webster Flea Market.

On a different note, we now have chickens! The only one with a name so far is the momma chicken, her name is Chicken Dinner, courtesy of Blake & Layla.

Not the greatest picture, but for anyone in Florida with a citrus tree in their yard, they are getting to enjoy the sweet smell of orange blossom. This is our orange tree, but the grapefruit and tangerine trees are also blooming.

"Weeds", from my sweet daughter. Riding in the golf cart, she made daddy stop so she could pick some flowers.

And finally, I picked up this lamp from Target when the Global Bazaar stuff went on clearance. It was $70, but I got it for $17. The black shade doesnt match anything in my house though, so I recovered the lamp shade.
