Earlier this month I blogged about Morgan's rainbow themed birthday party. And I promised I'd share the rainbow slush soon. Guess what? I'm finally ready to share! It's really easy and inexpensive, and the kids loved it. So here goes. You will need:
Ice Pops, a trifle bowl, scissors, a fork & a small bowl. I got my ice pops at Walmart for $2.48 (they are $1.50 now at my store!).
Seperate by color. In these packages there are some colors with two shades, like green and yellow, and then pink and red. I mixed the similar colors together.
Cut open your tubes and empty into your bowl.
Next you will take your fork and smash them up so there are no big chunks. You want to try & get it as soft as possible so it spreads evenly.
Empty the contents of the bowl into your trifle bowl. (notice my little helper sitting on the table?)
Use your fork to smooth it down evenly. Then you will just repeat with each color. Make sure you put the trifle bowl in the freezer between layers so the colors don't mix.
You can see that my blue kind of disappeared into the purple because I waited too long to put it in the freezer.
And there you have it! I told you it was easy! I took it out of the freezer a little before I was ready to serve it, so it could soften up just enough to be scooped out. It was a big hit so I will definitely be making this again. Oh, and make sure that when you are done with it, if it's been sitting in the freezer for awhile (like I don't know, a week?) so LET IT THAW before trying to clean it. I tried to hurry things along with hot water, and needless to say, the trifle bowl didn't make it. Oops!

I Think I might use this idea for my Kai Lan party coming up
I loved this idea and made it tonight! Just a few tips for anyone thinking about making it.
1.) My trifle bowl didn't have straight sides. It angled out slightly. As a result, my color layers weren't even. They are thicker on the bottom and thinner on top. It still looks great, but it's something to keep in mind.
2.) Let the pops sit out and thaw for just a few minutes before trying to open them and smash them up. I hurried through the first few so they wouldn't thaw and they froze my fingers and were hard to crush. After about 5 mins, it's much easier!
3.) I used a pizza cutter to help break up the pieces in the bowl. I thought it worked great. I cut it all up and then mashed a little bit with a fork.

For my twins' 3rd birthday party the theme is NickJr and they have so many they love that we're doing rainbow/bright colors as the color theme and just having random things from different shows. I ADORE this! Seems to easy and they would love it! :)

The kids eat it with a spoon, they've never complained! :) If it were watery, the colors would blend and look muddy.
I host a kids craft/play group. This was the first week and we made Tie-Dye shirts. I did not have a trifle bowl so I used clear plastic cups. It worked out great because then everyone had their own Tie-Dye slushy. Plus everyone thought I was super smart and cool. So thank you for the Totally Awesome idea.
Also I used my Mix n Chop from pampered chef to smash my otter pops and it worked amazingly
You can use a flat meat Mallet, rolling pin or hammer to smash the ice blocks whilst they are still in their wrappers
