One Lonely Treasure

Once again, I am particiapting in Today's Thrifty Treasures, at Rhoda's Southern Hospitality. Don't forget to head over there to see what everyone else found this week. Also, head over to Susan's Betwen Naps on the Porch for Met Monday!

I didnt go to the thrift store or any yard sales this week. But I had to run to Target to get some super cheap Bounce Dryer Bars. Have you tried these yet? I love them! I always have to check the clearance racks, and I happened to find this little guy. I am debating on painting him white. What do you think? Right now he's kind of a brown/bronze color.

Yesterday, I was letting the chickens out, and happened to glance over at our banana tree. And saw bananas! Can you eat these? Anyone know?

Ok, I need your ideas on this one. I saw these metal locker looking pieces at the thrift store. There are 4 of them. White, blue, red & I cannot remember the other color. Any idea what these came from? AND any idea what I could use them for? They are marked $2.

Remember this table from a little while back?

I had wanted to paint it white. Mike got it all sanded down and thought about restaining it. But I really wanted it painted. So he got it all primed up. I was thinking about using Heirloom White, but had also thought maybe we could try a color, instead of white. But I wasnt sure, and certainly didnt know what color.

Well, I looked out the door yesterday, and saw it was getting a makeover. What do you think? The color came from the free Glidden giveaway. It's called Sea Glass Green and looks EXACTLY like the Jadeite pieces I have. We were thinking about painting the bottom this green, and the top a creamy, antique white. What do you think?

That's it for today. I hope you have a great weekend!

Beach Party!

I decided at the last minute to join the Beach Party, hosted by Gina at The Shabby Chic Cottage. I apologize about the less than fantastic photo quality, these were taken tonight and it's overcast outside.

The only thing beach-y I have is in my bathroom. We picked up this little boat at a local store called the Scrounge Around shop. I highly doubt it's even remotely old, but we liked it. And while I still like it, I'm not sure I want it in here anymore. I have my Syroco birds in here, as well as the little cast iron bird bath I found, so I'm not sure I want this to stay. And I'm thinking about updating it. Not sure. What do you think? I have a similar birdhouse with a chicken wire door that I thought about putting in here instead. Thoughts? Opinions?

This coral belonged to my parents... not sure where they got it, but it's real. The candle came from Pier One several years ago.

I think I bought this starfish, and the shell came from the in-laws' collection.

I bought the little dolphin on a field trip to St. Augustine when I was in the 4th grade. It's made of sand. And the sea biscuit I believe came from a vacation to the Keys in 5th grade.

I swear that it's not as dusty as it looks!! And check out that hideous orange/pink/brown tile! I cannot wait to update this bathroom! Can you see the gold flakes on the formica counter?!

Back to School

Today was the first day of school, so I took the day off work to see them off. Layla is starting Kindergarten this year (how is that possible?!) and Blake is in 2nd grade (time flies!). She was very excited this whole weekend. Every day she was asking how many more days. I dont think Blake was quite as excited, lol.

Getting the backpack ready...

I decided to make that colorful Rainbow Cake that has been circling around other blogs. I thought it would be a little fun thing to do the last day before school started. It was a lot of fun and the kids really enjoyed helping.

Just a cute shot of Morgie since I havent shared any in awhile. She is almost 6 months already! Again, where did the time go?!

Layla had fun picking out her shoes this year. She is such a girl girly. Check em out!

Blake wanted me to get a shot of his, too. He said I never took a picture of them before, lol. He wanted Jordans, but ended up picking these instead. My wallet thanks him.

Almost time to go!

(I made those clippies using a scrap from the embroidery hoops!)

And we're off!

Have fun big girl!

She walked right in and didnt even wait for me. When I walked in she told me she didnt know where to sit. Then the teacher told her she could choose her seat. She picked out her seat & hung her backpack on the chair. The teacher told her to come get a name tag, so I told her goodbye & to have fun. She gave me a big smile & a wave, and I took that as my cue. So it's just me & Morgie until 2:30. It feels pretty strange not having Layla here!

Of course, I come home to find my cat EATING A SQUIRREL in the back yard. YUCK!! Lucky me, I got to bury it. Guess that explains why the squirrels havent destroyed our pecan tree yet.

Anyway, have a great day!

An Embroidery Hoop Update & a Few Finds

I'm participating again this week in Today's Thrifty Treasures & for the first time, Metamorphosis Monday. Head on over to Rhoda's Southern Hospitality and Susan's Between Naps on the Porch for some great thrifty finds & transformations. I'm also joining Kimba's DIY Day at A Soft Place to Land.

I didnt really go thrifting or to any yardsales this week. I did stop and pick up just a couple things. I know I took a photo of that fork by itself, but for some reason, it's gone. Anyway, that's going in my Etsy shop.

These leaves were .15!

And these knobs were either .25 or .50, I dont remember. There are 5 of them. You might be wondering why I would buy such bright knobs. Well, they are for a project for Blake's room, he chose the color.

And this is for Morgan & Layla's room. You can never have too much storage, right? I do like the purple color, but it's got a small ding in the bottom right corner, so it may get a paint job. I'm not sure yet.

I want to thank everyone who visited this past week! I've never had that many comments! Thank you! And I appreciate all the embroidery hoop love. I wanted to share them again today, because I got them finished!

I started with this....

And this...

And now I have this...

Sorry if the pictures are kind of dark. I was hoping for the sun to be shining when I took these, but it's been overcast & rainy all weekend. I promise you that floral one on the bottom right doesnt seem to stand out so much in person.

I love the apples, but this blue floral is my favorite. It came from the Vintage Sheet Fat Quarter swap I did at Rosey Little Things. I wish I had more left! That damask pattern on the right is Waverly. I found it in the remnants section at Joann's for 75% off.

I also really like this aqua and white one on the right. The one on top is the same fabric I used to redo an old chair we found in the shed.

Here's a little peek at the next project I hope to finish. It's kind of been in the works since February, so I think it's about time to get it done. It's also what the orange knobs are for.

Thanks for stopping by! I really appreciate it and love reading your comments :)

This Weeks Finds

Today I'm joining up to Rhoda's Southern Hospitality for Today's Thrifty Treasures. Head on over to her blog to see what everyone else found! Here's my loot for the week.

I saw someone using on of these mug holders (?) on another blog, but I have no idea where. I'm going to paint it and use it in one of the kids rooms. Probably Layla's because she has so many purses.

A great oval frame to paint.

And I guess wish and you shall receive? I was hoping to find embroidery hoops for a couple projects and Saturday didnt disappoint.

I even found some oval ones I was looking for. Please excuse Possum's paws, he wanted to be included!

Found some small ones, too. This one has two tags, one is an old Walmart tag.

Check it out:

This thought this little mirror was cute. Or will be cute when its painted. Right now its ugly brown plastic that is supposed to look like wood. Sorry for the blur, apparently my camera focused on the ugly underside of the overhang on my house.

A little close up of the top. Now I just have to decide what color to paint it and where to hang it.

A few more frames, all in need of paint.

I also found some cute "Japan" mugs. I know you have seen these around blog-land.

I already have one like this.

Reindeer...

pulling Santa.

I would say that these 4 cups make 7 in my collection. Except one day, I came home from work, opened the door and walked in to shattered glass all over the kitchen floor. My darling cats had gotten the cabinet door opened and decided to play in it. All three of my mugs were shattered. This is what's left.

I saved the pieces thinking maybe they were fixable. I highly doubt it but I still have them anyway. And of course, my favorite one, the blue one, is in the worst shape.

Off topic now, but I need opinions. Like you may have saw in my last post, I am hanging embroidery hoops on the wall and will be putting fabric in them. I added some more last night, but am now wondering if it's too many. What do you think? Good? Too many? If too many, what should I remove?

Thanks for stopping by!
